Dating Census Privacy Notice
Last updated: October 3, 2026
The Bay Area Dating Census is run by Evens Technologies, Inc. This notice explains what happens to your census answers. For general information about Evens' security practices and privacy rights, see our Privacy Policy.
1. What we collect
If you submit the census, we collect:
- Your answers to the 12 questions about dating and partner preferences
- Your age band, gender, relationship status, and Bay Area subregion
- A hashed browser identifier and the time your response was first submitted
The census does not ask for your name, email, phone number, exact birthdate, photos, or street address. It does not require an Evens account, and we do not automatically link census responses to application profiles.
The website also uses hosting, analytics, advertising, and error-reporting services that can process technical information about your visit, as described below.
2. How we use your answers
We use responses to calculate answer distributions, let participants compare their answers with other respondents, and understand dating preferences. We can also publish aggregate findings about the people who took the survey.
Comparison groups can be filtered by age band, gender, relationship status, and subregion. You can choose “Prefer not to say” for gender. Answer distributions appear only when the selected group has at least 10 responses. Results describe self-selected respondents, not everyone in the Bay Area.
Taking the census does not submit an Evens application or subscribe you to marketing messages.
3. What other people can see
Public census results show aggregate counts and percentages. They do not display individual response records or browser identifiers. Individual responses are stored in our Supabase database so we can calculate those results.
Inviting a friend shares a description of the census and a link, without your answers. The downloadable card includes all your questionnaire answers. Saving or sharing is your choice; your answers are not automatically posted publicly.
4. Browser storage and repeat responses
Your browser saves your answers and progress locally so you can resume for up to seven days after the last save. This local copy can also include answers you have not submitted. Clearing the site's browser storage removes that local copy.
After a successful submission, we set a cookie containing a random identifier. We store a hash of that identifier with your response, allowing later submissions from the same browser to update it instead of adding another response. The cookie expires one year after it is set or renewed.
Clearing cookies or using another browser can cause a new response to be counted. Clearing browser data or letting the cookie expire does not delete a submitted response from our database.
5. Site analytics and advertising
The census shares the rest of the website's services: Vercel for hosting and page analytics, Meta for advertising attribution, and Sentry for error reporting. These services can process information such as the page visited, browser and device details, referrer, network information, and technical errors. The site can also save the source of your visit in browser storage to attribute a later Evens application.
We do not send your census answers as advertising or analytics events. Vercel Web Analytics operates without analytics cookies, and Sentry session replay is disabled.
If your browser sends the Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal, we do not load the Meta advertising pixel. Vercel Web Analytics is not disabled by that signal in the current implementation. Browser privacy settings and tracking blockers can also limit collection.
Our Privacy Policy provides more information about site services and disclosures required by law.
6. Retention and requests
Submitted responses currently have no automatic expiry. We retain them to provide census comparisons and analyze the survey. Cookie expiry and the local progress window are separate from how long submitted responses remain in the database.
For a request to access, correct, or delete a submitted response, contact hello@joinevens.com. Because we do not collect your name or contact details with your response, we cannot locate it by email address alone. We will work with you to determine whether your response can be identified; if the browser identifier is no longer available, we may be unable to locate it reliably.
7. Who can participate
The census is for adults aged 18 and over who live in the San Francisco Bay Area. Single and partnered people can participate.
8. Changes and questions
We will update the date on this notice when we change it. Questions about the census or this notice can be sent to hello@joinevens.com.
